The Beyerdynamic Opus 99 kick drum microphone & stand is a hyper-cardioid dynamic microphone with a low-mass, large-diaphragm moving-coil element. The mic is intended for low-frequency instruments and optimized to capture double bass, bass cabinets, tuba and of course kick drums with pristine detail, low noise and no distortion.
The Opus 99 features a neodymium magnet capsule and sensitive diaphragm for high headroom and low distortion. The capsule features a hypercardioid polar pattern that maximizes gain and eliminates off-axis noise and feedback. The kick drum stand allows the Opus 99 to be mounted at the bass of the kick drum.
Its frequency response is pre-equalized or “tailored,” with peaks in the low frequencies (0dB at 100Hz) and highs (+7dB at 2500k, +8dB at 5kHz), and somewhat scooped mids (-4dB @ 400Hz).
